Portions of 5th and 7th streets in Watervliet will remain closed during normal daytime hours through Nov. 13 as Luizzi continues storm sewer construction, according to a city update. The work schedule depends on weather and conditions at the sites.

The affected stretches are 7th Street from 3rd Avenue to 6th Avenue and 5th Street from 3rd Avenue to 8th Avenue. Crews are installing storm pipes and structures at both locations, with restoration also underway on 5th Street.

Separate restoration work includes cutting pavement and restoring topsoil and surfaces in areas where construction has already been completed. That means crews may return outside homes and businesses on previously worked blocks, including along 5th and 7th streets.

The city advises drivers to take alternate routes and follow flaggers near construction. Active work areas will have noise, equipment traffic and temporary limits on parking. Crews will keep driveways and businesses accessible when possible.

The construction is part of Phase 2 of Watervliet’s Combined Sewer Overflow elimination project. The city says the infrastructure upgrades are intended to manage stormwater runoff and protect water quality in the Hudson River.
