Schenectady County residents considering becoming foster or adoptive parents will have two opportunities to ask questions at informational open houses on Dec. 9, the county announced.

Both sessions will take place at 388 Broadway in Schenectady. The afternoon session runs from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., followed by an evening session from 5 to 6 p.m.

Office of Children and Family Services staff will discuss how to become a foster or adoptive parent, training requirements, and financial assistance and other resources. Staff will also answer residents’ questions.

The announcement comes as the county marks National Adoption Month. According to the county, 18 children, including four sibling groups, were adopted through Schenectady County Family Court on Nov. 5.

The county held its annual Adoption Day celebration Nov. 4, with the County Legislature hosting a ceremonial tree-lighting. Legislature Chair Gary Hughes congratulated the families and recognized the judges, court staff and caseworkers involved in the adoptions.
