East Greenbush restored water service and completed repairs to a major water main break on Point View Drive at approximately 11 p.m. Oct. 20, according to a town update. The town said no water quality advisory is in effect as a result of the repair and the water remains safe to consume.

In its Oct. 21 update, the town reported receiving several calls about cloudy or discolored water in various locations. It said disrupted and restored water flow can stir up sediment accumulated inside pipes following a significant break.

The town recommends running a cold-water faucet or an outside spigot for several minutes until the water clears. Residents whose water does not clear after several minutes are advised to contact the Town’s Water Department for assistance.

The break was between Berkshire Drive and Evergreen Way. Before its location was identified, callers from multiple locations throughout town reported low water pressure. The Water Department was notified of the Point View Drive break at approximately 12:45 p.m. Oct. 20 and sent crews to the site.

After excavating the main, crews found a crack approximately five feet long. They removed the damaged section and installed approximately six feet of new pipe.

A nearby catch basin had sunk into the excavation during the initial break. Crews restored the catch basin after completing the water main repair.
