East Greenbush voters will be asked to approve closing the Length of Service Award Program, or LOSAP, for former Bruen Rescue Squad volunteers in a proposition on the back of their ballots, according to a town notice.

If approved, each qualified volunteer would receive a lump-sum payment covering all money owed to them under the program. The town says ending the program would relieve taxpayers of its costs, saving more than $20,000 a year.

The town said no current Bruen volunteers are eligible for the program. The proposition applies only to Bruen Rescue Squad and would not affect LOSAP programs for volunteer fire companies or other first responders.

Early voting begins Oct. 24, according to the notice.
