A new Albany County Holiday Market will bring about 30 local vendors, live entertainment and family activities to MVP Arena and along Pearl Street in downtown Albany on Dec. 5, according to the county.

The free public event is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the arena, located at 51 South Pearl Street, and along Pearl Street. County Executive Daniel P. McCoy announced the market as a celebration of the five-year anniversary of the Innovation Partnership between Albany County and MVP Health Care.

Planned attractions include amusement rides, a holiday train, snow dogs, visits with Santa and his elves, other characters and photo opportunities. Complimentary hot cocoa will be available. Local school choirs, community organizations and outdoor carolers will also participate, along with radio station B95.5.

County departments will offer opportunities to register for or donate to Adopt-A-Family, which matches families in need with donors providing holiday gifts and everyday essentials. A coat drive and holiday card-making for nursing home residents and veterans are also planned.

The county said transportation will be provided to help older adults participate.

Other downtown events announced for the same day include ParkAlbany and the Albany BID’s Deck the Hall-bany Holiday Market and the Downtown Albany Hot Chocolate Stroll.

The county said it intends to explore making its Holiday Market an annual event, including potential sponsorships and partnerships to support future markets.
